SMELLS: Ask everybody to smell the same spice at the same time and share their reactions (sounds weird, I know, but it works).

Caveat: Don’t feel compelled to use warm-ups for every meeting (which can be a drain on those who are in all-day back-to-back remote meetings). Rather, target them for situations where you are aiming to be creative together or are reconnecting with people you haven’t seen in a while.

This is one of my favorites because it’s so simple. It originated with Laszlo Bock, CEO and co-founder of Humu, and it goes like this: Send an email to your team containing these three questions:

What is one thing I currently do that you’d like me to continue to do?
